Hey there, and welcome! This post is dedicated to you getting to know about why I’m starting this blog and community. I am a licensed social worker and I wanted to create a space to propel women in their journeys towards growth and encourage resilience. All in all, I want this to be a place where we can clap for each other, learn from one another, and focus on our mental wellness. I’ll be using some of the same language or jargon, so let’s break down what they mean!
What is mental wellness? Great question, mental wellness is essentially how well we are caring for our overall mental wellbeing and how in tune we are with our mind and body are telling us. Just like our physical health/wellness, we have to make sure that we take care of our mental health by eating healthy, getting adequate rest, practicing self-care, amongst other things.
Now, let’s define resiliency and growth! Resiliency is about how you overcome or recover from situations in your life that are uncomfortable, traumatic, and/or stressful. You can build resilience and exercise it just like a muscle in your body, which can lead to growth. Growth is a pretty generic term, however, in this capacity growth means how one progresses toward specific goals for themselves. Growth looks different for each one of us and comes in waves. There are times we plateau and other times where growth feels so apparent or uncomfortable. Nonetheless, growth is always happening!
Lastly, as a mental health professional, I have to give a disclaimer to my audience. While I am a licensed social worker, that does not mean that I can be your personal therapist. This is a firm boundary that I have to keep because ya girl worked really hard for her license and would like to keep it. I do ask that if you are looking for a therapist, please check with your insurance carrier, local mental health agency, or telehealth network. All information on this blog is not to be used as a “therapy session”, it should be used as a source of personal development. Thank you for respecting this boundary.
Each post, I will end with some type of quote that settles in my soul and a thought that I would like us to take into the next week. (Fun fact about me, I love quotes and have since I was a teenager). I can’t wait to embark on this journey with you!
Tell me below a little bit about yourself?! (Things that are you comfortable sharing)
